It’s that time again—magazine deadline day draws near. So, after spending all day at my computer editing and proofing it was time to step outside for a well-deserved break. With the late afternoon sun finally breaking through the puffy clouds, there was ample light to work with. In my mind I really wanted to find something other than macro and nature to shoot, so as I embarked on a walk I searched for inspiration in patterns and some fresh subjects.
Unfortunately, my plan didn’t work. Nothing really caught my eye until I spotted a patch of purple flowers with waving grasses in the background. As I approached, I noticed the many tiny butterflies working the blooms, fluttering from flower to flower. Even though I didn’t have a macro lens on my camera, I thought I’d spend a few minutes shooting since the backlighting was so pretty. As I was setting up, a butterfly landed on the flower in front of me. I quickly took a couple of photos before it flew off. At the end of the day, those few shots were my favorites. I really wanted to break out of my routine today, but sometimes you just have to let nature take its course.
beautiful shot
Thank you, Cecelia!
Nice close up!
Thank you, Adrian. I’m glad you like it!
Beautiful! I love butterflies. 🙂
Tricia – Just curious, what lens did you use on this?
-Bobbi
Hi Bobbi! I used a 70-200 for this shot. The focal length was at 70 and I was maybe 6-ish feet away. I did crop this a bit in processing since I wasn’t as close as I would normally be for a macro shot. I hope that helps!
This is beautiful photograph, dear Tricia, but what I liked most in this photograph, the rings of the butterfly, so nice and so impressive shot… Thank you, have a nice day, with my love, nia
Excellent !!!
