Tonight’s grand opening reception at the Dover Saddlery store in Libertyville, Illinois, was everything a horse person loves—new tack, the latest in equipment, stylish attire, tasty food and good conversation. Immediately when you entered the store, you were immersed in the aroma of fine leather mixed with “horsey,” which to me is a combination of new blankets, tack cleaning products and fly spray all rolled into one. I took a deep breath and smiled. There’s something so comforting and familiar about walking into a tack store; it’s like a second home.

In conjunction with the grand opening celebration, the United States Hunter Jumper Association’s Emerging Athletes Program finalists were honored on the first evening of their event. Dover Saddlery generously sponsors the EAP, and President and CEO Stephen Day presented each EAP finalist with a gift bag of products. With close to 100 guests enjoying a Champagne toast and fine Belgian chocolates from Cavalor to celebrate, it was a great way to spend an evening.
