Peppermint Warm

Today’s mission was to write. I have a variety of deadlines fast approaching, so I spent the day in front of the computer. One of my favorite Christmas presents this year was a heated fleece throw, which I’ve decided is going to live in the office. I drape it around my legs, and the wonderful warmth envelops me in a cocoon of happiness as I type away.

For the past several days I’ve enjoyed this new routine, especially with the cold temperatures and dusting of snow we’ve had. But today my secret was revealed. When Peppermint came in to the office to check on me from the comfort of the couch, she walked over to my chair and sat down. She must have felt the heat, because it didn’t take but a few moments before she was pawing at the blanket. She managed to wrestle away a portion of the throw and that was it. The couch was a distant memory. She had found her new favorite dog bed, and my cocoon had suffered a serious tear.

She slept beside me the entire afternoon, even shifting over to her back at one point all splayed out and soaking up the heat. Ah well. I suppose I shouldn’t be selfish. After all, the Christmas spirit is all about giving…
