For this week’s WordPress Photography Challenge, it seemed the perfect time to depict Charleston, South Carolina through my eyes.
My mother and I took a photo walk this morning and meandered through the alleys and side streets downtown enjoying the many beautiful houses and gardens. With a great many tourists already out and about, we blended in perfectly, and despite our frequent stops to shoot gates and walkways, no one gave us a second glance.
Today, I chose to use a single focal length and only carried my D800E and a 50mm F1.4. It’s a small kit, easy to carry, and I was able to concentrate on composition without the distraction of having too many choices.
So, I’ve selected a few of my favorite picks from Charleston for this gallery, through my eyes today at 50mm.

This is a lovely collection of photos. Charleston looks like such a beautiful place to live!
Thank you so much! Yes, Charleston is lovely and I’m glad my parents live there!
one must just feel more beautiful living in a place like this.
It is one of those places where you see beauty everywhere, from the gardens to alleys to storefronts.

I am so jealous ! what a wonderful photo walkabout you had in Charleston. One of my most favorite southern towns. Beautiful captures!
Thank you! I do love it there. I’ve been traveling there regularly for 25+ years and always find new and wonderful adventures to take.
Well done Tricia :-). You found some lovely spots here in our hometown. The southern charm came thru loud and clear!
Thank you, Tina! I think having just the 50mm lens made me really focus on seeing things anew. It was a nice way to change my point of view!
