We had a lovely surprise last night while having a Saint Patrick’s Day dinner at the Cork Street Tavern in Winchester when the City of Winchester Pipes and Drums stopped by on their annual Pub Tour. They played for about 15 minutes in the pub area of the restaurant, and we were able hear a variety of different instruments and watch the members, from teenagers to senior citizens, bring Saint Patrick’s Day to life. Oakley Garden

I spent the morning photographing the Oakley vegetable gardens as they prepare for their first major harvest and the début of their Oakley Farm Stand in Upperville, Virginia, on June 14. After the thunderstorms rolled through last night, the crisp air and wispy clouds made for a nice backdrop to the rows of flowers, herbs and vegetables. I come from a long line of culinary talents. This summer our friends Christy and Eric introduced us to a new favorite—white stilton cheese with apricots. The rich texture of the stilton is highlighted by chunks of sweet apricots. Even by itself it’s a wonderful juxtaposition for your taste buds, but when you pair this cheese with Nilla Wafers it’s simply amazing.
