We had a visitor today, and it wasn’t a mouse. We found this pretty wolf spider working its way up the basement stairs. After an impromptu photo shoot, we relocated it to a safer place. Unlike yesterday’s mouse, the spider followed directions and went where we placed it, and we were all happy about that.
It’s that time of year when a hike in the woods requires careful scrutiny of the trail ahead, when a momentary lapse of concentration can result in a spider web enveloping your face and head. Hurricane Irene packed a punch when it grazed the coast of Virginia this evening. We prepared for the possible repercussions by bringing in container plants, securing deck furniture and taking down any hanging plants or decorations that could have become airborne in strong winds. I noticed my clematis were coming into bloom over the past few days, so this afternoon I thought I’d take a few minutes and photograph the young flowers before they fully mature and their delicate pink petals fade in the bright sunlight.
