Horse Shows by the Bay 1

It’s hard to believe how fast the time goes! As I drove from Virginia to Northern Michigan last week, I couldn’t believe an entire year had passed since my first summer adventure here.

Horse Shows by the Bay is held in Traverse City, Michigan each July, and it’s an amazing place to combine horse showing and vacation. The first week is a wrap, and we’re preparing for Series II, July 9-13, which is a USHJA/World Championship Hunter Rider show, and means lots of great hunters to photograph.

Saturday July 12 is Rescue Day, which benefits Danny & Ron’s Rescue, with a Rescue Dog Parade and Costume class. I’m already looking forward to the fun photos ops that afternoon!

So far, we’ve enjoyed lots of great competition during the first week, as well as some excellent dining in Traverse City and Elk Rapids, in addition to shopping and wine tasting up and down the Leelanau Peninsula.

Of the nearly 2,000 photos I shot last week, here’s a collection of some of my favorites from Horse Shows by the Bay Series I.

Hope you’re enjoying your time in Michigan. It’s one of the shows my daughters would like to do, and not necessarily as competitors.

The photo of the little girl in her oversized helmet is quite cute. But, the one of the horses in the line-up is fantastic. It’s like the two horses are having their own private conversation.
