This impressive Red-Tailed Hawk has been hanging out a lot in our backyard. Last night the light was quite beautiful as he relaxed on his favorite perch at about 5 p.m. Unfortunately, the 80-400 mm lens is my longest focal length, and even with some cropping on the D3s, this was the best I could do when shooting from the deck. Valley Evening

Well, this evening’s sunset over the Shenandoah Valley certainly looked beautiful and it made up, in part, for a tough day digging out after our 20-inch snowfall of yesterday. Sunset comes early to the mountain this time of year. The culmination of our day was an impromptu nine holes of golf at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. The only thing nice about the 11th hole at the Packsaddle Ridge Golf Course near Harrisonburg, Virginia, is the view. The uphill par 5 seems to last forever, especially if, like me, the most difficult aspect of your game is working the fairway. But the reward after chipping up onto the green may be worth it, as the views of the Shenandoah Valley are just breathtaking. And, at least I had one breathtaking moment during my game today.

We spent Easter Sunday enjoying the beauty of a gorgeous spring day in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
