King Of The Feeder

For the past week or so we’ve had a very strong-willed male Ruby-Throated Hummingbird defending one of our feeders. We have this particular feeder sitting on the deck rail, so he’s decided the wire hanger makes the perfect place for protecting his precious food. Hummingbirds Return

I was thrilled to see the Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds return this week, and this male has now established the deck as his territory. This week it’s been all about the hummingbirds. Yesterday morning I purchased a bouquet of flowers—purple and yellow—from the Safeway in Middleburg and brought them home. I placed them in several small vases and set them on the deck on either side of the hummingbird feeder.
