We spent the MLK weekend at the Wintergreen Resort in Virginia for a short skiing vacation. It turned out to be perfect timing, as the resort had several inches of new snow, and the nightly temperatures allowed for abundant snow making.
We had two full days of skiing on Sunday and Monday, however, our Tuesday plans were changed dramatically today with a significant snowstorm on the doorstep. We debated keeping to our plan, which included skiing today with the 4″ to 8″ of new snow expected at Wintergreen. Knowing how traffic on I-81 can be even on a good day, though, we decided to head home.
It turned out to be the right decision, as getting down the Wintergreen mountain was already dicey at 10 a.m., and by the time we turned into our driveway three hours later, we had 6″ of snow on the ground with more on the way. Ironically, our first skiing trip of the year was cut short by…a snow storm.

Enjoyed your panoramas. Maybe you’d like to bring your skies to the Mid-Atlantic where we are getting about 16 inches over night. It’s time to stay inside editing and processing.

We got eleven. Just finished shoveling. At least we have gorgeous sunshine to enjoy. Hope that you do too.
Yes, it’s a beautiful day but cold! I’ve enjoyed watching the birds this morning and kept the feeders full for them. Will go out later for some more snow photos 🙂
Wow two full days on the slopes. I haven’t been on skis in a long time…I bet it was great on fresh snow! I have to say I just love the last line in this post…too funny!
Thanks, David! It was a fun trip, but so sad we couldn’t stay another day for the fresh, real snow…alas, that darn thing called work took precedence!
