Each Halloween we look forward to trick-or-treating in Middleburg, Virginia. The town’s Community Center hosts a party for the children, and afterward hundreds of ghosts, goblins, super heroes and other frightening creatures take to the town’s streets to collect sweet treats and ride the hay wagon. Cameron was thrilled to make the Hill School’s varsity soccer team this season in his first year of eligibility. The sixth-grade class has a strong group of soccer players, and six were selected to join the seventh- and eighth-graders this year as they contest games against area private schools. This afternoon I joined Cameron and his classmate Payton at Hill School where they completed a field study for their science class. We spent 30 minutes observing a small area of wildflowers and bushes to document the butterflies and other insects in the ecosystem.
